Music Media Should Be as the
Presidential Election
Music
is a strong media for influencing society and culture. Though people in the
older days spoke about revolution and organizing to rebel against politics and
bring community issues an important topic. Music though has a different purpose
now and days. However, hip hop was a culture of Bboys/Bgirls, DJ’s, graffiti,
and MC’s (Chang, Jeff) they all went hand and hand, while promoting a positive
image. Music videos were break dancers were in the background went to women in
the video to be more visually pleasing. I myself was influenced with the new “gangster
rap era”. Everyone wanted to do what they saw on television. While neglecting
some key elements why hip hop was created, to bring together the community and
shed light on artistic talent from oppression in the poverty stricken
neighborhoods. I just feel like the rappers that are main stream forget about
the aesthetics of true hip hop and don’t pay homage (Chang). The real issues
that should be discussed are social economic hardships that are increasing at an
alarming rate. Sullivan would agree that in an article he wrote that “These
Issues threaten to destroy the infrastructure (Sullivan). A generation gap if
you will, of the new and old school way things worked during the civil rights
movement.
